Steps to age leather

Well then, to develop a properly aging leather job, you must perform each one of the following rules to be described by us here:

  1. Let drop carefully the Judean bitumen inside a jar of glass or a bottle, having a special care of getting dirty (avoid stain, that’s why the use of latex gloves are recommended).
  2. Then, you must to mix the diluent (turpentine) with the Judean bitumen according with the bitumen density used by you; so you need to change his proportion (bitumen 70% to Judea 30% or bitumen 80% to Judea 20%).
  3. Close properly the jar of glass with his top (it must be hermetic).
  4. Take the leather piece that you wish to age. You could make a marking work with the sharp cutter or any similar tool (for example a sharp knife) which allow you to make easily lines over the leathers surface for giving it a texture or a drawing (see figure). This going to be more noticed when you have applied the dye to age the leather.
  • Now you impregnate the swab wool with the Judean bitumen which is inside the jar, to apply it abundantly obtaining leather dyed. Remember to close again the jar tap and avoid the dye evaporates.
  • The next step and without letting dry the dye over the leather, use the cleaning blanket to remove out the Judea bitumen excess. Is necessary to brush it well to remove out the excess as the following figure shows as well.

As you can see, the technique to age the leather is simple; moreover, it requires materials which are not difficult to obtain them.
