Introduction
Good leather work is recognisable in the details... and the edge is EVERYTHING.
A well-finished edge conveys quality, professionalism and durability.
Here is the actual process we use in the workshop 👇
Step 1: Cutting to even the edge
Before polishing, you need a perfect base.
👉 Performs a clean cut to even out all layers
This eliminates unevenness and prepares the edge for finishing.
💡 Tip: the better this step is, the less work you will have afterwards.
Step 2: Progressive sanding (key to the result)
This is the difference between amateur and professional.
It works with various sandpaper:
- Coarse-grained → equalise
- Medium grain → smoothing
- Fine-grained → prepare for polishing
👉 The goal: a completely even and smooth edge.
Use a matacantos to round the edges.
- Improved feel
- Prevents premature wear
- Gives a more professional finish
👉 This step marks the final aesthetics.Step 3: Edgebanding (bevelling)
Step 4: Apply Tokonole
Apply a small amount of Tokonole in song.
- Moisturises the fibre
- Compacts the leather
- Facilitates polishing
👉 This is one of the secrets of professional finishing.
Step 5: Polish... and repeat
Rub with:
- Wood Honing Instruments
- Fabric
- O machine
Repeat the process if necessary:
👉 Tokonole + polishing = mirror finish
